Health Equity

The YWCA’s mission is eliminating racism and empowering women. One of the YWCA’s hallmark areas around this mission is our health equity programs.

Quality, affordable healthcare is critical to everyone, but especially for women and women of color, many of whom have inadequate health care coverage or no health care coverage at all.

The YWCA Women’s Health Equity program empowers underserved women and girls to take charge of their own healthcare. Through our education, outreach, and financial assistance, the YWCA’s Women’s Health Equity program works to reduce persistent health disparities related to poverty, ethnicity, and social status.

Women's health affects entire communities – women are in a powerful position to make health decisions for the whole family. In the absence of regular, non-emergency health care, many women and girls are not receiving accurate information or the resources that they need to care for themselves. As a result, generations of women continue to suffer from preventable illness.

ENCOREplus:

For over 16 years, the YWCA has provided women in New Mexico with direct financial assistance for mammograms. Our outreach staff members reach out to the most vulnerable women in our community with culturally appropriate health education and encouragement to take care of themselves.

HEART HEALTH:

The YWCA’s Heart Truth program educates women about heart disease prevention, measures women’s glucose, cholesterol, and blood pressure, and provides resources for women to eat well, quit smoking, and incorporate exercise into their lifestyle. All programs connect women with partner agencies and options for affordable medical care.
Thank you to our generous sponsors
